Demystifying freemasonry

Museum of Freemasonry

The untold story of William Perfect

Freemasonry has long been misunderstood because of its secretive nature. The museum has countless fascinating artefacts to share, but needed design support in visually telling these stories.

Tactility, bold imagery and craft formed the basis of my approach to the exhibition identity. Everything from posters to wayfinding was designed to bring the viewer back in time to discover these intriguing stories.

The visual language for the exhibition identity puts William Perfect and his craft at the forefront. Using scans of his original letters and an oil painting from the mid 1700s, I created a bold and graphic style that revealed greater detail when looking closer.

Inspired by the existing brand created by Ascend, I designed a set of icons in geometric and line form. They capture the precision of stonemasons and support in navigating visitors throughout the museum.
